Welcome to Feathers for Freedom, an adjunct website to www.abovehisshoulders.com. For centuries, birds have been symbolic for new beginnings, wonder of travel, and freedom. Birds have played an enormous role in my life and my spiritual quest. Many children have become prisoners to their traumas. These traumas may not only be sexual abuse and physical abuse, but emotional pains locked away behind unconscious bars of denial and/or fear of disclosure. There are benefits of all traumas. Those benefits may not be readily acknowledged. I have seen the benefits of my own trauma, and through Above His Shoulders, offering a different approach, hope for the victim, an ability to look past the abuse and focus on brighter horizons.
Children who have experienced abuse frequently have dreams of flight. These dreams of flight are an unconscious need to fly away and escape, looking for a brighter, safer respite. It has taken me years, however I now fly toward future goals. Native Americans believe that finding a feather is a true gift from our winged ones. I frequently look for these lost feathers, then give them to those that may appreciate them.
I realize there are hundreds, if not thousands of causes to give to. There are so many who are hurting emotionally, financially, and physically. This is my cause, my inspiration, my need to want to give back.
